Possibility (b) from Golf with Rain Problem:
The battery is still charged, but its connection to electrical systems is interrupted.
This seems unlikely, since the car can be jump started, and the battery will then successfully charge off the alternator if driven around.
Also, the problem has reoccurred several times in the last year or so. If the connection were broken, why would it be restored once the car dries out?
