An associated problem is that the electronics get weird. This can take different forms. Dashboard lights, the alarm, and the door lock "beep" will activate at the wrong times.
For example, in Dec. 2020, we jumped the car after it was completely dead. It did not immediately jump, but after being on the cables for a couple minutes with the other vehicle revving the engine, it did start up. It was running fine, but dash lights including "Brake" were (incorrectly) on. We then drove for ~30 min., ~30mph, to further charge the battery. When we killed the ignition, the alarm went off. Pressing a button on the key fob would interrupt it for a moment, but the alarm would then start again. Putting the key in the driver side door finally stopped it, but then it would start up again. We had to leave the car unlocked to prevent the alarm from sounding. After drying out overnight, the issue seems to have vanished.
At other times, the engine has refused to turn off when turning off the ignition switch; we were able to stop the engine only by intentionally stalling it (releasing the clutch with no gas, and immediately hitting the foot brake).
